Big Moves

It has been a very long time since I made a post, and for good reason. My family has moved across the states to a new and better homefront.

Our original home gave us a great foundation on which we grew our family. However, we outgrew it, and the neighborhood was quickly becoming unsafe. The best solution we found was to move to a new state with a new environment and new opportunities. It was the best decision we made, though it was not an easy transition.

It took us over a year of three or more offers a week, many rejections, multiple road trips, and a lot of heartache before we landed in our official forever home. It was an emotional roller-coaster, but all the turmoil was worth the end result.

Our neighbors greated us in the driveway with hugs and warm wishes the day we arrived. Others brought us fresh produce and baked goods within the first few days. We truly landed in a community that cares for each other, and we are beyond thankful.

The land and views are breath taking. There is an abundance of activities here for the whole family without each thing being crowded. There is so much space, and the population of our little country town is small, so it makes for a very cozy and comfortable environment.

We have been here for just over two months now, and boy have we had some experiences.

Let us start with the chickens. We ordered day old chicks and ended up receiving 18 total. After losing several to a snake, we ordered replacements and now have 19. They have 5,800 square feet of fenced in yard to forage, and a large coop for protection. You can read more stories about our chicken adventures in the Chicken Coop Forum.

In the meantime, we have caught crawdads in the river, and a couple bass in a lake. Both of which we cooked up and ate.

We can see the Milkyway on a clear night, while we hear coyotes in the woods hunting their prey.

Though we do not have the same dangers the city provides, there are new dangers we have to learn. This includes copperheads and rattlesnakes, coyotes, bears, and more.

That said, this new home is a true dream come true for all of us. Each one of us now has a better life, and we are excited to see where our adventures lead.
