How Clever

Everyday, we are met with life's many challenges. Most are easy to overcome, while others seem impossible. Further, many trials and tribulations feel as if they will never end. Some days we feel like we finally pulled ahead, only to be kicked back to a less pleasant reality that not everything goes according to plan.

What to eat for breakfast or deciding what outfit fits your mood for the day are among the easier challenges we face. They are simple decisions we are forced to make everyday, to the point where they are habitual in nature. However, what about the tougher choices, such as buying a new car or what we want to be when we grow up. (Too bad we never had the choice to grow up or not.) How do we face the overwhelming life decisions that could become pivotal points in defining our future?

Sometimes we have to get creative in our problem solving. The smaller roadblocks are easier to apply clever solutions to, such as using a bag clip on a pile of napkins, so they do not blow away outside. However, the bigger decisions are more challenging to address creatively. In addition, clever solutions are not applicable to every situation, as they have direct answers, such as having a baby. So, how do we get creative when faced with the heavily weighted milestones in our journey?

Perspective.

We have to step back and look at every problem from several different perspectives. We are all set with our own personal points of view, which can make us blind to additional opportunities or disadvantages. Think about how each decision could impact the outcome, or even someone else. Who could benefit, or who do you not want to benefit? Is what you want to accomplish the best possible ending? Are there better ways something could turn out?

In addition to these different approaches, you need to account for any potential failures or set backs. You may need to think creatively to circumvent those added challenges. You will need to remain flexible and accept the potential reality that your first desired outcome will likely change or even not happen at all.

I know, it sounds like a lot of work, and it is a lot of the time. However, if it is something you really want to succeed, it will not unless you put in the extra work. Do not give up, even if it seems impossible. All situations have a resolution. Even if it is not the one you wanted in the beginning, it could very well be the one you need in the end.

When did you have to apply a clever solution to a problem you faced? Maybe your experience can help someone creatively overcome their same challenges. Even better, someone else could help you find a different and successful approach to one of your most difficult problems.
