Creativity and imagination are critical attributes of any child's life. As parents, it is our responsibility to nurture those natural tendencies and help them explore all the wonders of the world, and their mind.
The best and most common ways are through art and music. Another fantastic outlet for their creativity is cooking, with close supervision.
My daughter, who is six years old, decided one day that she wanted to make her own cookie recipe. When I say make her own cookies, I mean she made the ingredients list all by herself, down to the measurements. She then mixed everything together, with daddy's help and mama's guidance. Just like that, Swirlydoos were made.
I tell you what, they were an absolute hit! Her excitement leading up to the day was insurmountable, but the wait was worth every minute. She had a blast making them, and everyone loved her cookies.
While her imagination thrived, her brother, who is four, was making his own cookies. Though he was following a recipe, he learned how to measure and mix ingredients in the correct order.
Was it messy? Absolutely, but their joy and our family collaboration overshadowed the flour and butter spread across the kitchen.
Life is messy, literally and figuratively. We cannot hinder their growth just because we do not want to deal with the mess. In addition, you might just find that you enjoy the mess or at least the memories made.

Both were delicious! Well worth the mess!
